Architectural Forum Magazine
In my graphic design 1 course, we were tasked with designing a series of three book or magazine covers. Our book/magazine could exist already or it could be speculative. They could also be any genre, from any era, for any audience. During this semester, I was also studying the history of graphic design. During this course we learned about various kinds of publications and Architectural Forum specifically stood out. For my project, I wanted to design three hypothetical issues of this magazine from August 1944, May 1956, and November 1972. The Architectural Forum magazines’ all have a textured quality to the cover which I wanted to incorporate in my own versions. Additionally, I love the look of the retro magazine advertisements. In my versions, I wanted to retain the beautifully overwhelming feel of these ads while incorporating my own use of bold colors and collage design elements. While the Architectural Forum Magazine is no longer in circulation, I hope that its influence on graphic design can prevail.
